Manage Dental Fear with Anti-Anxiety Options

We understand that many patients are fearful about going to the dentist or get anxious about dental procedures. We offer oral sedation and nitrous oxide for those who experience dental anxiety before or during treatment. Dr. Park and (retired) Dr. Lamb have been serving patients for over 16 years and offers these two calming options at his practice, in addition to local anesthetic. These options can completely change the dental experience for many patients and minimize dental anxiety, which is why we recommend it to those who are hesitating to continue with their treatment plan.

Experience Our Calming Dental Care

Dr. Park and (retired) Dr. Lamb perform a number of minimally-invasive procedures that do not require any dental anxiety options at all. Most patients experience mild to no discomfort during treatment and heal relatively quickly. Still, we offer calming options to those who may be more sensitive than most or those who have had a bad experience at another practice in the past. We offer three types of options to prevent dental anxiety: oral sedation, nitrous oxide sedation, and IV sedation.

  • Oral Sedation

involves taking anti-anxiety medication before the visit so you arrive feeling very calm and relaxed. It is easier for us to work with a relaxed patient and we can numb the treatment areas as needed. You will feel slightly groggy after treatment so someone will need to drive you home.

  • Nitrous Oxide

Also known as ‘laughing gas,’ is a popular choice among our patients with mild to moderate dental anxiety. You simply inhale the gas for a few minutes and will start to feel very sleepy and tired. Most patients do not remember their treatment when they are under this type of anti-anxiety option. Once we stop the gas, its effects also disappear so you can wake up and feel normal shortly after treatment. There are no side effects and you can get on with the rest of your day after your visit.

  • IV Sedation

While IV sedation uses medication that is delivered directly into your bloodstream via an IV. This option will take effect almost immediately after it’s introduced to your bloodstream and will sedate you more deeply than oral conscious sedation.

Many patients fall asleep during their treatment with IV sedation. While you may forget your procedure, you can still be woken up and respond to commands.

After your procedure is complete, you may feel “out of it” for 4-6 hours or longer. You will not be able to drive yourself home after your procedure, so you will need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from our office on the day of your appointment.

If you have dental anxiety before a dental visit or procedure, do not avoid the care you need, consider our calming options. Learn more about your options by scheduling your appointment with us today.
